Leadership Tulsa Paragon Award 2017 – Jean Kelley

Google and Goodwill

CEOs,

I am thrilled to announce that this afternoon, Google.org and Goodwill® announced the launch of the Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator SM. Funded by a $10 million grant from Google.org and with the assistance of 1,000 Google volunteers, the new Goodwill initiative will equip more than one million people to receive vital digital skills training over the next three years that will enable them to become more marketable and advance in today’s labor market. Digital skills are the gateway to the future of work. Goodwill is excited and energized by this opportunity and Google.org’s support and investment in this initiative. Goodwill and Google.org will be working together to bring people to the frontline of the changing workforce, provide them with relevant and necessary skills, and advance their careers with digital capability.

The kick-off for the launch today occurred at Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) in collaboration with Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Google.org President Jacquelline Fuller who visited with the Goodwill Pittsburgh President and CEO Mike Smith and his team, and participated in a Digital Skills Career Day. The day consisted of sessions designed to raise awareness of digital skills training and career opportunities among Goodwill program participants and build Goodwill team members’ capability to train individuals for careers that require digital skills.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, there are currently more than 6 million job openings in the United States. Many of these jobs remain unfilled because job applicants lack specific skills employers report they need. This innovative initiative will allow local Goodwill organizations to enhance their job training programs to incorporate the ever-changing demand for new skills in the digital economy.

It is thrilling for Goodwill to be joining forces with the world’s most innovative technology and digital leaders, working together to making people’s dreams of achieving a career in the digital industry a reality, forever changing and transforming their lives.

I am enclosing the launch video as well as the news release that went out today:
